2006年のイグノーベル賞が発表され、授賞式が、米ハーバード大学サンダース・シアターでありました。2006年の受賞者は以下の通りです。

ORNITHOLOGY（鳥類学）:「Why woodpeckers don't get headaches.（頭を振り続けるキツツキはなぜ頭痛に見舞われないのか） 」 Ivan R. Schwab (the University of California Davis), and the late Philip R.A. May (the University of California Los Angeles).

NUTRITION（栄養学）: 「Dung beetles are finicky eaters.（フンコロガシの食嗜好についての研究）」 Wasmia Al-Houty (Kuwait University) and Faten Al-Mussalam (the Kuwait Environment Public Authority). フンコロガシが肉食動物よりも草食動物の糞を好み、草食動物の中でも、馬が一番で、続いて羊、ラクダの糞の順に好みがあることを突き止めた。

PEACE（平和賞）: 「Invention of an electromechanical teenager repellant .（高周波雑音発生装置「モスキート」の発明）」Howard Stapleton (Merthyr Tydfil, Wales). この装置はティーンエイジャーには聞こえるが大人には聞こえない雑音を発生する装置として発明されたが、のちに教室で生徒には聞こえるが先生には聞こえない着信音の装置として利用された。

ACOUSTICS（音響学）: 「Why people dislike the sound of fingernails scraping on a blackboard（爪で黒板をひっかいた時の音が嫌われる理由）」D. Lynn Halpern (Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, and Brandeis University, and Northwestern University), Randolph Blake (Vanderbilt University and Northwestern University) and James Hillenbrand (Western Michigan University and Northwestern University) .

MATHEMATICS（数学）: 「The number of photographs you must take to (almost) ensure that nobody in a group photo will have their eyes closed （グループ写真を撮る際、目を閉じた人が１人もいない写真を撮るためには、何枚撮影する必要があるか） 」 Nic Svenson and Piers Barnes (the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Research Organization).

LITERATURE（文学）: 「Consequences of Erudite Vernacular Utilized Irrespective of Necessity: Problems with Using Long Words Needlessly　（必要性に関係なく用いられる学問的専門用語がもたらす影響について──不必要に長い単語の使用における問題）」Daniel Oppenheimer (Princeton University).

MEDICINE（医学）: 「Termination of Intractable Hiccups with Digital Rectal Massage.（直腸刺激による、しつこく続くしゃっくりの停止）」Francis M. Fesmire (the University of Tennessee College of Medicine), and Majed Odeh, Harry Bassan, and Arie Oliven (Bnai Zion Medical Center, Haifa, Israel).

PHYSICS（物理学）: 「Why, when you bend dry spaghetti, it often breaks into more than two pieces. （乾燥スパゲティを曲げると、しばしば２つ以上の部分に折れてしまうのはなぜか）」Basile Audoly and Sebastien Neukirch (the Universite Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris)

CHEMISTRY（化学）: 「 Ultrasonic Velocity in Cheddar Cheese as Affected by Temperature.（温度影響を受けるチェダーチーズの超音波速度）」 Antonio Mulet, Jose Javier Benedito and Jose Bon (the University of Valencia, Spain), and Carmen Rossello (the University of Illes Balears, in Palma de Mallorca, Spain).

BIOLOGY（生物学）: 「The female malaria mosquito Anopheles gambiae is attracted equally to the smell of limburger cheese and to the smell of human feet. （マラリア媒介蚊のメスはリンブルガー・チーズと人間の足のにおいを好む）」 Bart Knols and Ruurd de Jong(Wageningen Agricultural University, in Wageningen, the Netherlands) .

今回は、残念ながら日本人の受賞はありませんでした。
