Cedars-Sinai Medical Center
Description:
The laboratory's research focuses on dissecting out the cellular and molecular cross-talk/pathways of kidney repair/regeneration after mammalian acute kidney injury (AKI) to discover therapeutic targets to augment endogenous kidney repair responses and suppress pathological interstitial remodeling “fibrosis” after human AKI. To this end, the laboratory couples cutting-edge transgenic mice (including dual cell-type specific reporter system) which enables genetic lineage-tracing, tissue-specific loss-and gain of function approaches, and bulk- and single-cell sequencing to clinically relevant acute kidney injury models and kidney development. The human transplant kidneys and single-cell sequencing of human kidneys is employed to confirm and validate the above responses. I just obtained a grant on single-cell sequencing human kidneys, and I am very keen to get things going on the front too.
Working independently but in close cooperation with the Principal Investigator and other Research Scientists, you will perform routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout the training period, and may develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols and analyze and interpret data. You will also participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author and may assist in the preparation of grant proposals, but will not be responsible for generating grant funds.
Participation in laboratory meetings, keeping a lab notebook, performing calculations, tabulating data, summarizing methods and results of related experiments and general lab maintenance will be required. The individual will be expected to function efficiently and cooperatively with a team of faculty, research associates, technicians and students.
Educational Requirements:
Doctorate (MD, PhD, VMD, or DDS) in area directly related to field of research specialization
Experience and Expertise:
• Primary interest in regenerative medicine and stem cells, molecular cloning, next generation sequencing such as RNA-seq and Chip-Seq, high resolution imaging, and Crispr/Cas9-based gene editing methodologies
• Outstanding molecular and cell biology training with experience of the above genetic technologies
• Demonstrated aptitude to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection, and analysis and operation and maintenance of specialized equipment
• Schedule flexibility to include evening, weekend and holiday rotation commitment is required
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
Funding:
The research is funded by American Society of Nephrology (John Merril Award), American heart association, and NIH RO1 5-year grant.
