Postdoctoral Fellowship: Gastrointestinal Cancer Genetics and Epigenetics
A postdoctoral position is available for immediate recruitment for a highly motivated candidate to join a team of researchers at the Baylor Research Institute and Sammons Cancer Center, Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas, TX, USA. The laboratory headed by Drs. Ajay Goel. Ph.D. and C. Richard Boland, M.D. focuses on understanding the interplay between genetic and epigenetic alterations in gastrointestinal cancers, with particular emphasis on colorectal cancer.
This position involves studies surrounding work in the fast developing field of genetic and epigenetics research. More specifically, the projects will involve;
a) Exploration of the role of DNA methylation, histone modifications and non-coding RNAs (miRNA, LncRNAs, SnoRNAs etc.) in gastrointestinal cancer biology
b) Establishment of innovative methodologies for the development, screening and validation of epigenetic and non-coding RNA biomarkers for the earlier diagnosis, prognosis and prediction of gastrointestinal neoplasia
c) Use of high-throughput microarray and Next Generation sequencing technologies for the identification of DNA methylation and non-coding RNA biomarkers.
An ideal candidate should have a Ph.D. or a M.D. degree with a strong background in biochemistry and molecular biology, and relevant experience in cancer genetics and epigenetics. The candidate with prior hands-on experience in state-of-the-art methods such as Next Generation Sequencing (genomic, RRBS/MeDip and RNASeq etc), array-based methylome/ miRNA/ gene expression analysis, bisulfite pyrosequencing, methylation specific real-time PCRs and microRNA work will be considered an important strength.
Knowledge and experience with various bioinformatic and statistical data analysis tools will be highly preferred. The candidate must possess excellent writing and communication skills, a solid record of peer-reviewed publications, commitment to drive scientific projects, motivation for independent research and ability to deliver on agreed objectives.
The position is available for 2-3 years with the potential for extension. Salary is commensurate with experience. Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a description of their research experience and career goals, along with names of three references via email to:
