Deadline for the application was extended to December 9, 2011.
Recently, a proposal from University of Miyazaki for the program
“Improvement of Research Environment for Young Researchers” was adopted by
the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan.
Therefore, a start-up fund and an annual research fund could be increased
next fiscal year. For this reason, we decided to extend the period of the
call for the application until December 9, 2011, in order to further recruit
the applicants. The other time schedules were also changed.

Call for Applications: Tenure Track Assistant Professor Positions
The University of Miyazaki offers 3 tenure track (TT) assistant professor
positions starting from Fiscal Year 2012.
We are preferentially seeking foreign or female applicants.
TT assistant professors will work with research funds, environments and
opportunities. TT assistant professors achieving excellent performance
during their terms of employment (five years) will be promoted to
associate professor positions in their related departments of the university
through
final evaluations at the end of their terms of appointment.

*Education and research area / Fuculty
1. Biomaterial Science/ Medicine
2. Bioengineering (Biotechnology)/Engineering
3. Vegetable and Ornamental Horticulture/ Agriculture

*Number of positions: A total of 3 tenure track assistant professor
positions (one for each area)

*Fund: Start-up fund (the first year)：Three million yen per person. Annual
*research fund：Three million yen for the first fiscal year, 2 million yen
for the second and third years, and 1 million yen for the fourth and fifth
years.

*Research environments: Secured own research space. Mentoring by a
coordinator and 3 senior researchers.
*Support systems for female researchers: Assistance from Kiyohana Athena
Support Room. If a TT assistant professor takes parental childcare leave
for up to one year, the interim and final evaluation may be postponed up to
one year.
*Support systems for non-Japanese researchers: Foreign assistant professors
will be supported by the Interdisciplinary Research Organization Office,
which have coordinators proficient in English. Our university provides the
Japanese language class for foreign researchers and their families.

*Qualification: Applicants should have a Ph.D. in the related research
field, awarded within the past 3 to 10 years.

*Location: Kibana or Kiyotake area of Miyazaki City, Miyazaki prefecture,
Japan
*Term of employment: 2 April 2012 - 31 March 2017

Selection: First screening involving review of documentation.
