The BioNanotechnology Interdisciplinary Research Group (IRG) of the Puerto Rico Institute for Functional Nanomaterials (IFN) at the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) is seeking to hire a dynamic, highly motivated and collaborative post-doctoral researcher whose work will aim to understand baseline cytotoxicity of novel nanomaterials using Drosophila as an in vivo testbed.

Successful candidates will apply a wide range of skills in gene expression and function at the molecular, cellular, and whole organism level towards understanding of the molecular biology of novel nanomaterials’interactions in vivo in a developmental context. Research will focus on the use of Drosophila disease models to study and decipher cellular and molecular "toxicity pathways". That is, research will focus on the cellular response pathways that can result in adverse effects when perturbed as a result of nanomaterial exposure, through studying the effect of surface modification on nanomaterial biological interaction and in vivo transport. Priority will be given to individuals who have a strong Drosophila cellular and molecular biology background, and whose research experience bridges multiple areas. The IFN offers a vibrant and multi-disciplinary research environment in a multi-campus effort across institutions in Puerto Rico. The selected individual will work in !
the Department of Biology at the UPR Mayagüez Campus.

Deadline for the application was extended to December 9, 2011.
Recently, a proposal from University of Miyazaki for the program
“Improvement of Research Environment for Young Researchers” was adopted by
the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan.
Therefore, a start-up fund and an annual research fund could be increased
next fiscal year. For this reason, we decided to extend the period of the
call for the application until December 9, 2011, in order to further recruit
the applicants. The other time schedules were also changed.

Call for Applications: Tenure Track Assistant Professor Positions
The University of Miyazaki offers 3 tenure track (TT) assistant professor
positions starting from Fiscal Year 2012.
We are preferentially seeking foreign or female applicants.
TT assistant professors will work with research funds, environments and
opportunities. TT assistant professors achieving excellent performance
during their terms of employment (five years) will be promoted to
associate professor positions in their related departments of the university
through
final evaluations at the end of their terms of appointment.

*Number of positions: A total of 3 tenure track assistant professor

for the second and third years, and 1 million yen for the fourth and fifth
years.

*Research environments: Secured own research space. Mentoring by a
coordinator and 3 senior researchers.
*Support systems for female researchers: Assistance from Kiyohana Athena
Support Room. If a TT assistant professor takes parental childcare leave
for up to one year, the interim and final evaluation may be postponed up to
one year.
*Support systems for non-Japanese researchers: Foreign assistant professors
will be supported by the Interdisciplinary Research Organization Office,
which have coordinators proficient in English. Our university provides the
Japanese language class for foreign researchers and their families.

*Qualification: Applicants should have a Ph.D. in the related research
field, awarded within the past 3 to 10 years.

テンプル大学医学部心臓血管研究センター (Philadelphia, PA)

応募資格：日本国内で生命科学系の大学／学部　（医歯薬、農学、理学部等）に所属され、助教かそれ以上の職位を有し、現所属機関から１年かそれ以上の留学資金の補助が約束された教官。

定員：２名

当研究室に一年留学されれば、遺伝子工学の基礎から応用、細胞生物学的実験、遺伝子改変動物の基礎から応用、免疫組織実験等、研究の基本から応用までを効率よく体験、取得できます。英語については日本人スタッフ現在３名（客員講師１名を含む）とNative Speaker２名が優しく指導、一年の留学で２年留学者レベルまではいけると確信しています。さらに英文論文作成、投稿、リバイス、学会発表等についても実際の体験と能力アップが可能です。

昨年１０月の研究員募集に続きまして我々の研究に参加していただける方を募集します。このグラントは９月から４年間（５年で申請しましたが多分４年、詳細は９月末までにわかります), 研究課題は下記の1)と２)に関してですがそれに限定はしません。それぞれの研究課題が相互につながりうると思います。来年の３－４月くらいまでに来ていただける方を優先したいと思います。

研究課題
1）酸化ストレスと遺伝子転写制御機構、特にantioxidant response enhancer elementによって制御されている一連の抗酸化機能を担う遺伝子のクロマチンリモデリングによる発現調節機構。
2）HIPKs (homeodomain interacting protein kinases) によるCREB/ATF1転写調節因子のリン酸化とgenotoxic stress による新しいシグナリング経路の解析。
3）環境汚染物質、特にヒ素やカドミウムに対する細胞応答機構を遺伝子発現調節、シグナリング経路から解析。
4）鉄代謝異常による酸化ストレスとアルツハイマーやパーキンソン病などの神経細胞障害のメカニズム解析。
5）フリードリックアタキシア(Friedreich ataxia)の原因遺伝子フラタキシン（frataxin）の機能解析と遺伝子転写調節機構。
6）p66Shcの機能解析とミトコンドリア酸化ストレス調節。
