Postdoctoral fellow position to study collagen expression in liver fibrosis.
Institution: College of Medicine, Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL
I am looking for a postdoctoral associate to join my lab in studying molecular mechanism of type I collagen expression in liver fibrosis. Excessive synthesis of type I collagen is responsible for clinical manifestations of fibrosis. We have cloned a novel RNA binding protein, LARP6, which regulates translation of mRNAs encoding type I collagen and is critical for high level of collagen expression. The LARP6 dependent collagen synthesis requires filaments composed of nonmuscle myosin, these filaments develop in abundance upon activation of hepatic stellate cells. Please refer for the publications bellow for the details:
Cai L, Fritz D, Stefanovic L, Stefanovic B. Binding of LARP6 to the Conserved 5' Stem-Loop Regulates Translation of mRNAs Encoding Type I Collagen. J Mol Biol. 2009 Nov 13. PMID: 19917293
Cai L, Fritz D, Stefanovic L, Stefanovic B. Coming together: liver fibrosis, collagen mRNAs and the RNA binding protein. Expert Rev Gastroenterol Hepatol. 2009 Feb;3(1):1-3.
The future work will focus on the molecular details of the mechanism by which nonmuscle myosin filaments assist in translation of collagen mRNAs. The candidates should have a Ph.D. in molecular biology, cell biology or biochemistry and are expected to have experience in protein analysis, mRNA analysis, immunoprecipitations, immunostaining, cell culture and molecular cloning. The work is funded by a NIH R01 grant until 2013 and the position is offered initially for two years. Interested candidates should contact
